Herstory
A History of The ChoirGirlz

Debbie Fleming, Dorothy McDonall and Mary Ellen Moore met while all three were sopranos in Toronto's prestigious symphony choir -- The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.

The three bonded during rehearsals and out-trips, and became fast friends.
While performing with the choir at the Elora Festival in the summer of 2000,
they attended a pre-concert pool-party with other choir members. They
jauntily began to sing songs while playing in the swimming pool, and began
harmonizing as if they'd sung together all their lives! According to their
fellow choristers who'd been listening, their sound was quite extraordinary!
Not long after that "baptism of water" -- the three attended the movie "O
Brother Where Art Thou" and fell in love with the pure unspoiled music from
the soundtrack. They decided they would like to further explore this music
when they began to rehearse together for fun in the summer of 2001. Debbie
was excited about having the chance to fulfill a longtime dream to play
guitar and accompany a singing group. It was a learning experience for all
of them, and they took their already fantastic sound and fine-tuned it to a
warm polished patina of vocal synchronicity. Time committments led Mary
Ellen and Dorothy to leave the Mendelssohn Choir, while Debbie remains
proud member of the first soprano section. During the five years they have
been together, the ChoirGirlz have become seasoned performers, and are
invited back wherever they perform. They debuted their first CD "Angel
Wings" in Nashville, where they performed the title tune on the Ryman
Auditorium stage - and since then, have performed in Toronto, Ottawa,
Hamilton and many other places - to appreciative audiences who love their
humour, musicality and innovative harmonies.

Their sophomore CD "Girl Time" has just been released, and it is getting rave reveiws. With Steve Briggs and Debbie Fleming co-producing the album, the Bebop Cowboys added their special brand of swing to the backup tracks, and this added even more sparkle to the ChoirGirlz' amazing harmonies and original songs.
